There are a limited number of motivations for wanting to jump in and help people.

One is just wanting to be helpful - sometimes wanting approval.

The other side of it's the idea that you can do it better than they can.

Nate tends to be some of both. Nate's also 18, and has experienced a lot of hard stuff. He's also very emotionally young and very filled with the idea that a-) he can take care of himself, no matter what, and b-) everything is changeable and he can change it.

You try to help a lot. He doesn't want to be helped and his motivations for wanting to give help are fairly arrogant.

I don't think it has to do with me trying to help, though, he responded so negatively when I first offered something that I haven't since.

He thinks I'm 'on a high horse.'

Maybe he's projecting. Or looking for a reason to fight with you. Maybe you just clash. I don't know. What I do know is you're not doing anything wrong and it's fine.
