There are a limited number of motivations for wanting to jump in and help people.
One is just wanting to be helpful - sometimes wanting approval.
The other side of it's the idea that you can do it better than they can.
Nate tends to be some of both. Nate's also 18, and has experienced a lot of hard stuff. He's also very emotionally young and very filled with the idea that a-) he can take care of himself, no matter what, and b-) everything is changeable and he can change it.
Maybe he's projecting. Or looking for a reason to fight with you. Maybe you just clash. I don't know. What I do know is you're not doing anything wrong and it's fine.
It's funny, we were getting along just fine before I gave my name. Then he began making intentionally baiting comments to get a rise out of me. His words.
[ Thank fuck this is text, though Scott can probably figure out that Kazu is mortified on the other end of the conversation. And struggling with how to phrase how much he liked it without sounding desperate. ]

I don't care at all. He's my kid but he's an adult, here, and he shouldn't ask questions he doesn't want answers to.

Okay. Good. Because he won't drop it so it might come up with you as well.
Can I ask you something?

Sure.

[ A beat, then a follow up: ]
Not that I assume we're going to make a habit of it or anything.
[ And then he's typing again: ]
Not that I would mind if we did.

Contrary to popular opinion, I don't actually have a death wish. No interest in doing that again, thanks.
...lots of interest in doing you again.
