[ Scott looks up from his work, and even with the glasses he's pretty clearly surprised; the reason his eyebrows are up is very different from why Jason's did. ]

Neither.

[ He's not even reading that as any kind of challenge. The idea of either of those being accurate feels... weird and wrong to him. ]

[He suspects that Scott is lying, but the question is if he's lying to Jason or if he's lying to himself. So.]

[ He looks back down and gets back to work. ]

I hate it when Logan's right, but he was right when he told me I'd want to retreat but shouldn't do that. This is a pretty good balance between the two. It's not alone, it's not public, and no one here is my dead ex-wife.

[There's a quiet pause.]

Am I going to have to force you to make friends? I can hook you up with my old dominant and you can be sad and broody at each other.

[ That is... more a joke than it's not, but it's not all a joke either. ]

What's the old dominant's name? [ No break between that and the rest of this: ] Do you want a bandage on top of this, and do you want me to try to clean up the gunshot wound too?

[ He has three questions he wants to ask and rather than firing them all off he stays quiet for a moment, putting away suture material and finding bandaging supplies.

Then smears a thick layer of antibiotic ointment over the stitches to keep bandages from sticking and decides he can get it down to two. ]

Because of Jealousy or because he doesn't like you? [ Yeah, yeah maybe a joke but there's maybe a reason for it and fuck it. More importantly: ] Is he actually some kind of cat or is that just a title?

[He watches that bandaging, and takes a breath.]

It's a title. He goes by Tiger.

[He misses Tiger. But not enough to say another word, at least not now. He rubs his nose, cautiously.]

[ He pulls back to pre-tear the bandage tape off, hanging the stripes on the edge of the counter until he's ready for them.

Jealousy and...this. Not him, but Logan and Dick.

Doesn't stop getting things ready to go, even when he opens his mouth.]

That sounds really uncomfortable for everyone. [ Especially Jason, maybe.]

I mean, there are better names, it's true.

Probably more awkward than calling himself kitten. Way less awkward than jealousy.

[ Hedge, don't. He'll react to both at once and mostly just get busy very efficiently bandaging Jason's shoulder - making sure the bandage will stay on with movement, since he doesn't see Jason as someone who's going to stop moving and let it heal.

...He doesn't know anyone who would, actually. ]

You hang out with a dude who calls himself Wolverine.

[He just finds the notion of making fun of Tiger's name ridiculous from people who go by codenames like Cyclops.]

I do and I set myself up for every variation of being called a dick that exists when I decided to call myself Cyclops.

[ He was a kid and okay, Jason, fine, he'll go along and let the evasion happen. ]

So I assume you can be a grown up and not make fun of anyone's name, right?

[His eyebrows go up, and he can't fucking believe he's defending Tiger, of all people, considering how he feels right now.]

[ Scott lifts his eyebrows in return. ]

I was taking the other option available for conversation since you were dodging around jealous and I'm dodging around everyone I actually know.

He's jealous of most of the people who I talk to because I'm not talking to him right now. But you and I aren't fucking and we won't, and you need friends, and he needs....company.

[He says it and he means it.]

And you're both taciturn idiots so you can sit in a room together and you can tell people you were with another human without actually socializing.

[ He gets the bandage in place and starts taping. Was that a deliberate Cyclops pun? Yes. Is he going to change his tone at all to indicate it was deliberate? No. ]

[He says it softly.]

[ He wants to be fussy but he didn't actually miss Jason telling him not to act like a 'dad', even if he pretended to. So he backs off physically as well as metaphorically, closes up the kit and extends the knife back to Jason, hilt first. ]

[ He stops midmotion and frowns faintly - just confusion. ]

[Which is as good as saying I don't mind if you're here.]

[ Yeah. That is what that says. He doesn't give too much of a reaction, but he quirks a definite half-smile and nods. ]
